about melody chance

Canadian singer-songwriter and piano-based musician Melody Chance takes influence from a wide variety of genres to create her unique blend of jazz and pop music.

Melody received her Bachelor of Music from Humber College in 2019 and is currently living in Toronto. She quit piano lessons as a child but later taught herself to play instead, also picking up bass, drums, guitar and anything else she could get her hands on. Some of Melody’s greatest influences include Stevie Wonder, Donald Fagen, Fiona Apple and Gavin Castleton, but she credits an album by American singer-songwriter and record producer Ben Folds for her return to the piano as a teenager.

Melody’s lyrics always tell stories often influenced by poetry, novels and films, allowing her to explore unique narratives in each of her songs. Musically, she has the energy and creativity of Ben Folds and the unique, tasteful writing of Fiona Apple or Donald Fagen. Melody’s performance history includes many performances both as a soloist and as a bandleader with a history of performances at festivals such as Femme Fest, Big on Bloor and Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival and in venues like the Rivoli, the Burdock and The Supermarket.

Melody released her debut EP, A AX & B, in July of 2019.
